I always used size 1 or 2 hooks. Smaller they are very thin and they cut the skin. That kind of hooks they where famous 20 years ago for cut the carp mouth, just they use to be a little longer. Private lake people were using small hooks and small boiles, i love free nature, the channels around me had amazing carps. 20 to 25mm boiles homemade for avoid the breams or thik polenta. Feed them few days or find the where tbey hang out. They pull lile beast. This was Italy 20 years ago, now I'm in Australia and carps are consider a pest...😢 I moved to salt water

Well i can say that pike is swimming well with a broken back 🤔,i reckon it's back is in that state is probably because it's been rapped in that wire so every time its tried to swim the wire just got worse and not been able to move properly. So doubtful it's been dropped & having a broken back 😆

im anti barbed hook fishing, most places including my club lake dont allow hem any way plus less harm to the fish mate

Firstly why are you fishing a canal during the close season. Secondly, no wonder these Grass Carp were bleeding when yo are obviosly using barbed hooks. You are not a fisherman but an opportunist that does not care about the fish you go after

I've not fished for a few years now but used to use Drennan Super Specialist hooks, and flatten the barb, and had few issues with them - caught fish up to 28lb no problem. Lovely video by the way, fantastic result, well done!

Not sure if it would work there but I have always used Wheaties & onions mixed with little water make dough balls out of them just dampen them and ball them up . They stay on hook really good and carp love it
